Dorothy D. Shauver, age 87, of Shelter Bay, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at Marquette General Hospital with her family and friend Jodi Mattson at her side. She was born on February 8, 1923 in Charlotte to "Happy" and Edith (Carr) Dhaene. Dorothy married Merle O. Shauver on September 3, 1944 and they raised their three sons. She loved the Lake in Shelter Bay and could be found fishing on Forest Lake every year. Her faith was very important to her. Dorothy enjoyed music, singing, playing the organ and piano, and was the choir director at the Perry United Methodist Church in Shaftsburg and the United Methodist Church in Munising. She was a member of the United Methodist Women for many years. Dorothy was a classy gardener known as the "Lavender Lady." She quilted, hobby crafted, and always kept her hands busy. Dorothy was a baker and decorated many beautiful wedding, birthday, and special occasion cakes for many special people. She was a gracious hostess and loved having the gang around to entertain.

Dorothy is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law - John and Becky Shauver of Shelter Bay, MI and Tim and Donna Shauver of Haslett, MI; four grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents Happy and Edith Dhaene, husband Merle Shauver, son Terry Shauver, and brother John Dhaene.

A Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Irene White at the United Methodist Church in Munising on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. There will be visiting time with family and friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials in memory of Dorothy are requested to be made to the United Methodist Church in Munising.
