Dorothy E. Woropay

August 3, 1926 — March 26, 2014

WOROPAY DOROTHY ERNESTINE WOROPAY, age 87, of Grand Marais, Michigan, passed away on March 26, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Stanley (Ward) Woropay. Loving mother of Nancy C. Van Hoose (Charles), Jane E. Hayward (William), and cared for by her youngest daughter, Peggy A. Woropay. Proud grandmother of four grandchildren, Bradley G. Van Hoose (Julie), Amy R. Nothstine (Derek), Rebecca J. Eliakis (Joseph), and Laura J. Krajenta (James), and four great-grandchildren, Ethan Van Hoose, Lauren Van Hoose, Sofia Eliakis, and Giovanni Eliakis. She was born on August 3, 1926, in Detroit to the late Steven and Helen (Platt) Harchuk. Married December 15, 1945, in Livonia, Michigan. "Dot" was a wonderful, caring, and above all fun friend to many. Her spirit for playing the poker machines touched us with her joking sense of humor. She enjoyed listening to Patsy Cline records, and sang to "People Are Crazy." Above all, she was an artist, and appropriately named the "Rock Lady," for capturing Michigan's Upper Peninsula's shoreline vistas and lighthouses painted on rocks gathered from Lake Superior's sandy beaches.  She was a knitter and loved to crochet things for her arts and crafts shop, Crystal Pinecone Gift Shoppe in Grand Marais, Michigan.   She will be dearly missed.Dorothy's memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the First Lutheran Church in Grand Marais at 1:00 p.m.
