Duane Kelly Hollingshead, age 66, of Manistique, died at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans in Marquette on Tuesday, January 23, 2024. He was born on August 29, 1957 in Manistique to Mervin and Carol (Losey) Hollingshead. Duane grew up in Germfask and started school there. The family moved to Lapeer, and he continued school at Shickler Elementary, White Junior High, and then Lapeer High School. In 1974, Duane joined the U.S Army National Guard and retired as Sergeant in August of 2017. During his time in the Guard, Duane served in Kuwait and Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom. When he wasn’t active in the Guard, Duane worked as a general laborer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cars, camping, and baseball. Duane was very proud of his service to our country.
He is survived by his mother – Carol Hollingshead; daughter – Amy Hollingshead; brothers – Mervin L., Russel W., and Gregory L. Hollingshead; sister – Carolyn Corkins; nephews and niece - Adam (Dusty) Boldrey, Clay Hollingshead, and Mikaela Hollingshead; great nieces – Elianah, Olivia, and Emmie Lou; great nephews – Zander and Landon; and great-great nephew – Owen. Duane was preceded in death by his father Mervin G. Hollingshead and his son Curtis D. Hollingshead.
Military honors will be conducted at the Fairview Cemetery in Manistique on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
