Munising
Earl Wesley Daniels, age 81, of 312 W. Onota Street, Munising died surrounded by his family at 6:40 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2009 at Marquette General Hospital. He was born in Munising on March 21, 1928 and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School. Earl began his employment at the Munising Mill on November 27, 1946 in the Finishing Room. In October of 1948, he entered the U.S. Air Force. Earl married Patricia Ann Rousseau on October 13, 1951. Upon discharge from the Air Force in 1952, Earl returned back to the Paper Mill and the Finishing Room as an Assistant Cutterman. In June of 1953, he posted in the Engineering Department as a Laborer. In February 1954, Earl began his Apprentice Training and in 1957, he completed his training and graduated as a Millwright. On November 27, 1967, Earl was promoted to the position of Maintenance Foreman and on December 1, 1980, he was promoted to Trades Supervisor in the Engineering Services Department, then promoted to Maintenance Coordinator in February of 1987. On January 1, 1988, Earl retired from Kimberly Clark with over forty-one years of service. Earl was a true blue Detroit Lions fan, and as much as Earl loved the Lions, Pat loved the Packers. Football season was interesting in the Daniels home. Earl and Pat were married nearly forty-six years when she preceded him in death on September 22, 1997. He was one of the first members of the Pictured Rocks Golf Course, a member of the American Legion, Toastmasters, and the Pole Creek Hunt Club. Earl loved hunting, fishing, and taking his trips to Canada. He especially enjoyed those trips with Butch, Shot, and Sam. Earl had his afternoon clockwork routine of agitating the bartenders in town. He especially enjoyed spending his time harassing Donna at Shooters.
Earl is survived by his six children - Suzette (Bob) Tiernan of Munising, Deborah (John) Sands of Marquette, Joanne Daniels of Goodman, WI, Thomas (Jeanie) Daniels of Munising; Rene' (Mike) Allyn of Marquette, and Melissa (Darryl) Barry of Baraga; grandchildren - Danielle (Eric), Raenelle (Mike), Kassie, Shawn, Wesley, Josie, Tyler, Wyatt, Sam, David, and Nadine; great-grandchildren - Emma, Mikayla, Lucas, and Lia; brothers - Larry (Shirley) Daniels of Powell Lake and Edmund "Squeaky" (June) Daniels of Fort Wayne, IN; in-laws - Vivian, Jack, Mary Lou, Alice, and Betty Rousseau; and numerous nieces and nephews. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, wife Pat, infant daughter Mary Ann, and sister Dorothy (Bill) Beerman.
Earl's visitation and funeral service will be held on Monday, August 31, 2009 at the Bowerman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Father Chris Gardiner will conduct Earl's funeral service at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home's chapel. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery on Tuesday September 1, 2009 at 12:00 noon where the Alger County Veterans Council and American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors. Earl will be escorted by Gary Daniels, Bill Rousseau, Doug Scheuneman, and Dick, David, and Ken Bowerman.
