Earl A. Steinhoff, age 64, of Munising, died Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Munising Memorial Hospital. He was born on September 20, 1953 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Wallace “Speck” and Olga (Knaus) Steinhoff. His family moved to Munising in 1960. As a young man, Earl helped work on his family’s mink farm and sawmill where they would make fish boxes for local fisherman. He then graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1971. After school, Earl began working in the woods and owned and operated his own logging company. On October 25, 1975, he married Jane Carl and together they raised their four children. Earl enjoyed coaching all four of the kids in Little League. He was a talented craftsman, and made many beautiful pieces on the lathe and turned numerous bowls. Recently, Earl had begun making rock candles with his granddaughter and sidekick Natalie. He enjoyed time with family, having fun, playing on-line poker, and occasionally a good debate.
Earl is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years – Jane Steinhoff of Munising; children – Amy (Sean) McCray of Las Vegas, Ben (Cassie) Steinhoff of Munising, Mary Steinhoff of Munising, and John Steinhoff of Washington; grandchildren – Courtney, Monica, Natalie, Harper, Jackson, Caitlin, Cassidy, Callie, and Thomas; brothers – Wally (Pam) Steinhoff and Milo (Lola) Steinhoff of AuTrain; longtime caretaker and partner in crime – Melanie Nettleton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
