Edward D. Johns, Sr., age 79, of Trenary and formerly of Munising, died on Thursday, December 16, 2021 at UPHS Marquette following a one week illness. Ed was born in Munising on January 24, 1942 to George and Edna (Parr) Johns. He grew up in Trenary and Wetmore and attended school in Trenary and Munising. He served in the USMC. When he returned home, he married Charlotte Paulsen on July 29, 1968 and they raised their five children. Ed worked at Timber Products as a machine operator until an injury forced him into retirement. Ed enjoyed bowling in leagues, camping, fishing, and hunting.
He is survived by his five children - Edward (Cathy) Johns, Jr. of Munising, MI Dennis (Jennifer) Johns of Limestone, MI, Michael Johns of Escanaba, MI, Karen (Arlene) Russell – Johns of Minot, ND, Robert “B.J.” (Blaine) Johns of Munising, MI; daughter-in-law – Becky Johns of Munising, MI; grandchildren – Julia, Jordon, Meghan, Erik, Kyla, Abby, Dennis “D.J.”, Brittany, Michael II, Matthew, Jordan, Molly, Daniel “Spud”, Cody, Tanner, Nonni, Maddee, Robert II, and Brody; great-grandchildren – Wyatt, Adeline, Grayson, Natalie, Kelsey, and Khalecy; brothers – Daniel, Joseph, Jerry (Sharon), and Marvin Johns; sisters – Judy Gerber and Alberta Nausianen; sister-in-law – Joyce Johns and Pat Johns; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Willard, George “Jug”, and Robert Johns, and sisters Violet LaFrambois, Norma Johns, Barbara Johns, and Joy Russell.
Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Sunday, December 19, 2021. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Pastor Jason LaFlamme will conduct Ed’s funeral service in the funeral home’s chapel at 5:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held in the Veterans section of Maple Grove Cemetery on Saturday, May 28, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. where military honors will be rendered by the American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guard and committal prayer will be led by Pastor Jason LaFlamme.
