Edward Maynard, age 69, of Kiva, died unexpectedly of heart complications at his home on Tuesday morning, March 23, 2010. He was born on August 20, 1940 in Manistique, Michigan to the late Philip and Loretta (Deloria) Maynard. Edward married Mary Chilicki on November 21, 1959. He worked for JI Case in Racine, Wisconsin for twenty-six years as a machinist. Edward retired in 1991 and he and Mary moved back to Kiva. He owned operated his own sawmill in Kiva and cut pulp and logs. Edward played in the Country/Western Band called "The Country Squire Band" as the lead guitarist and singer. He also managed his son's band "The Young Country Boys" for seven years. Edward enjoyed music, loved fishing, and enjoyed hobby farm with chickens and rabbits.
Edward is survived of by his wife of over fifty-years - Mary of Kiva; five children - Maryellen (John Cooper) Maynard of Marquette, Timothy Edward (Crystal) Maynard of Red Granite, WI, Frank Lewis (Sherry) Maynard of Kiva, Kevin Wayne (Katrina) Maynard of Calumet, and Loretta Ann (Matthew) Kramer of Frankfort, MI; seventeen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brothers - Jim (Midge) Maynard and Randy Maynard; sister - Phyllis (Chum) Brock; cousins - Rosemary Sabalak and Jenene Thennes; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Shirley DesArmo, and nephew Steven DesArmo.
Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Friday, March 26, 2010. Visiting time will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. Father Jacek Wytklo will officiate Edward's funeral service at noon in the funeral home's chapel. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery.
