Elaine Viola Hase, age 85, of 300 W. City Park Drive, Munising, died on Thursday morning, January 15, 2009 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born in Forest Lake, Michigan to the late Alex and Francelia (Ross) Johnson. Elaine attended school in Forest Lake and in 1943, she married Joseph "Misty" Clayton Hase. They were married over forty-four years when he preceded her in death. After his death, Elaine took driver's training at the age of sixty-five so she could get back and forth from work. She worked in the housekeeping department at Munising Memorial Hospital for over twenty-five years. Elaine was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church until her health no longer allowed her to attend. She enjoyed being a member of T.O.P.S. down at the Manor. She loved traveling with her friends and took travel tours to Hawaii and Europe.
Elaine is survived by her only son and daughter-in-law - Joe and Barb Hase of Munising; granddaughter - Carrie Allie of DePere; great-granddaughter - Erika Allie; brothers - Tauno and Toivo "Todd" Johnson of Marquette; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by brothers Alex Jr., Walter, Leslie, and Vaino Johnson and sisters Amelia O'Neill, Aili Hakala, Lillian Klinazewski, and Emma Johnson. A funeral service will be conducted by Father Chris Gardiner on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising. Graveside services will take place at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising in the spring.
