Elizabeth "Betty" R. Geary

August 6, 1926 — July 6, 2014

Munising
Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Mazzali) Geary, age 87, of Munising, died Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Munising Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on August 6, 1926, in Munising to the late William "Shorty" and Alice (Bowerman) Mazzali. Betty grew up at the tannery on Washington Street and fell in love with the Lake and outdoors. She also enjoyed her many trips to Presbytery Point in Michigamme. Betty graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in Munising in 1944. In September of 1947, she married Carl Radloff and together they had five children. In 1962, they were divorced, and Betty continued to work multiple jobs to raise and provide for her five kids. After her fifth child graduated in 1973, Betty moved to San Diego, California where she met the love of her life, Austin Geary. They were married on August 8, 1975. Betty and Austin enjoyed going to Padres baseball games and even watched them in the World Series. They also enjoyed going to the dog races, trips to Mexico, jai alai games, playing bridge, and visits from her children. Betty also spent her time in the summer at her sister's camp on AuTrain Lake with her family. The time came in San Diego where Betty gave up the trips to the track and accepted the Lord. She found great comfort in serving the Lord, Bible studies, and becoming a part of the church community. In 1989, they moved back to Munising to continue in Betty's partnership at Mr. B's Restaurant. Moving back gave Betty an opportunity spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved intensely. Betty was honored with being able to be a caregiver to her son Thomas who died in 2006. Betty and Austin spent their winters in Laguna Vista, TX. Betty was a member of Faith Baptist Church and served in the kitchen and prayer groups. Betty was a giving woman who taught her children how to love unconditionally, live life to the fullest and die with grace. She will be missed immensely.
Betty is survived by her loving husband of thirty-nine years - Austin Geary of Munising; children - Janis (Tom) Ferzacca of Munising, Veronica (Edwin) Macy of Carmel, IN, Larry (Sue) Radloff of Munising, and Billie (James) Stedman of Bend, OR; grandchildren - Elizabeth (Todd) their children Jack, Laurel, Ainsley; Michael (Diane) their sons, Joe and Luke; Santina (Matt) their children Cheyenne, Logan, and Tessa; Christopher (Amanda) their daughters Alexandria and Cassidy; Curtis (Rebekah) their children Faith, Page, Shelby, and Ashlyn; Sarah (Jay) their children Sylus and Marley; Ryan and his son Gavin; Daniel and his daughter Adrianna; and Micah (Jane) and their children Eden, Patton, and J.R.; siblings Charles Mazzali of Munising, William (Gerry) Mazzali of Otsego, MI, and Norma (William) Henninger of Palm Springs, CA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
