Ellen Elizabeth Christina Nadeau

Munising Ellen Elizabeth Christina (nee Anderson) Nadeau, age 97, of Munising, died Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on December 7, 1916 in Skandia, Michigan to the late Fred and Edith (Swanson) Anderson. Ellen went to school in Skandia. She moved to Munising in her late teens to help raise her sister's family, and began working at the Beach Inn and Candy Kitchen. Ellen married Pershing J. "Push" Nadeau on May 2, 1941. While Push was serving in the Army during WWII, Ellen moved to Forest Lake to live with her father-in-law to raise their son John. Ellen worked for many years with Push at Nadeau Plumbing and Heating, and then as a cook for the Munising Public Schools, retiring in 1986. She loved dancing, gardening her roses and rhubarb, making cheese cake, baking Christmas cookies and delivering them all over, solving the puzzles on Wheel of Fortune before anyone else, and most of all her grandchildren. Ellen made it a point to always know her grandchildren's favorite foods and have plenty on hand. She enjoyed going to their activities and making clothes for them on special events. Ellen was an active member of Eden Evangelical Lutheran Church. She loved serving God, caring for people, being kind to everyone. Ellen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law - John and Rachel Nadeau of Munising; daughter-in-law - Claudia Nadeau of Marquette; grandchildren - Tom (Maria) Nadeau of Dallas, TX, Heather (Steve) Griffith of Kingsley, MI, and Kristi Nadeau of Marquette; great-grandchildren - Coleman, Jackson, and Marina Nadeau; brother - Bob (Alice) Anderson of Skandia, sister-in-law - Evelyn Nadeau of Ishpeming; and numerous other relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents - Fred and Edith; husband - Pershing "Push"; son - Jerry Nadeau; granddaughter - Rachel Marie Nadeau; siblings - Lolly Babcock, Maria, Emma, and William; and dear friends - Edna, Eva, and Ruth. Visitation will be on Monday, December 23, 2013 at Eden Lutheran Church from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. Pastor Elisabeth Zant will conduct Ellen's service at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Graveside services will be held at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.
