Elvera “Vera” Amber Dott, age 104, of Munising, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, September 26, 2016 at Mill Creek Assisted Living in Marquette.  Vera was born on June 20, 1912 in Munising, Michigan to Algot and Ellen (Holmstedt) Norlin.  She enjoyed her life as a daughter, wife, and mother in the same house for eighty-eight years until old age forced her to move to Mill Creek Assisted Living in January 2014.  Vera was a proud graduate of the Mather High School Class of 1930.  In her teens, Vera worked at the Grand Island Hotel cleaning cabins and working in the kitchen.  She worked at the Munising Paper Mill during WWII while raising her son and nephews.  Her real enjoyment was being a mother and housewife.  Vera took special interest in needlework and gardening.  Her passion was cooking.  She enjoyed watching sports on television, especially Viking football, until her dying day.  Vera enjoyed the simple life, like picnicking at the AuTrain Basin or going for a ride in the woods.  Even in failing health, she was a pleasant person with a ready smile.

She is survived by a son John Dott and daughter-in-law Dawn of Marquette; a daughter-in-law Jina Wallace of El Cajun, CA; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Francis “Bud” Dott; a son and daughter-in-law Laird Wallace and Carole Wallace; sister and brother-in-law Ann and Cluen Malone; brothers and sisters-in-law John and Alice Norlin, and Donald and Ruth Norlin.

Vera was very grateful for the wonderful care she received from the entire staff at Mill Creek and U.P. Home Health and Hospice.  They became her extended family and always treated her with respect, friendliness, and kindness.

It was Vera’s wishes than any memorials be sent to the little church where she was a lifelong member:  Eden Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1150 M-28; P.O. Box 360, Munising, MI  49862.

Services will be held at the Eden Lutheran Church in Munising on Wednesday, October 5, 2016.  Visiting time with family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.   Pastor Ann Gonyea will conduct Vera’s memorial service at 11:00 a.m.  A luncheon and time of fellowship will take place following the memorial service.
