Emily Mae Lakosky Firman

Emily Mae Lakosky Firman, age 37, of East Jordan, Michigan and formerly of Boot Lake, died unexpectedly Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry, Michigan.  She was born on February 18, 1982 in Manistique, Michigan to James and Marcia (Cowell) Lakosky.  Emily grew up on Boot Lake and attended school at Manistique.  She moved to Kalkaska and graduated from Kalkaska High School in 2000.  She worked at Kohl’s in Gaylord, then became manager at Dollar General in East Jordan, and also worked for a short time at Boyne Mountain.  While working in Gaylord, Emily met Kirk Firman and on September 24, 2016 they were joined together in marriage.  On that day, she not only gained a husband, but she also became a mother and grandmother, a responsibility she loved and cherished.  Emily loved going for rides with Kirk on their Harley and in their rat rod and spoiling their two Boxers: Frazier and Fiona.  She also enjoyed good food, working in her herb garden, and shopping for a new purse.  Although Emily was born with a rare congenital vascular disorder, her upbeat personality, bright eyes, and infectious smile never let you know there was anything wrong.  Her love of family and friends gave her the strength to do anything she put her mind to.

Emily is survived by her husband – Kirk Firman of East Jordan; parents – Jim (Lou) Lakosky of Boot Lake and Marcia (Jay) Lavengood of Big Rapids, MI; children – Chelsie (Kaleb) Firman, Kyle (Tiffany) Firman, Page May and Taylor May; grandsons – Kyzer and Linkyn; siblings – Tammy (John) Bush, Susan Krupski, and Jamie Lakosky; nieces and nephews – Krystle, Katie, Trevor, Lilly, Delilah, Thayne, Caleb and Belle; step-siblings – Rhiannon Singer, Christa Polmatier, and Jesse Polmatier; grandmother – Toni Cowell; aunts and uncles – Jackie (Ron) Polomski, Joe and Cheri Lakosky, Carol Norman, David (Joan) Cowell, Claudia Nadeau, and George (Cheryl) Cowell; numerous cousins; her N.M.C.C. Family and many other beloved friends .  She was preceded in death by her grandparents – Joyce and Matthew Lakosky and Hilma and Bob Cowell, and numerous aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising, Michigan.  A funeral service will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Emily’s name may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation or your local animal shelter.
