Ernest "Ernie" Frank Monhead

Ernest "Ernie" Frank Monhead, age 74, of Hilltop Road, Munising, died on Thursday evening, December 5, 2013 at Marquette General Hospital following a week long illness. He was born in Skandia on November 22, 1939 to John and Betty (Craft) Monhead. Ernie attended school in Deerton and Munising before going to work in the woods. He married Judith Ann Gamelin on February 9, 1963 and together they raised their four children. Ernie worked thirty-three years at Timber Products a before retiring from there in 2002. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking the outdoors, and especially being with his grandchildren. Ernie loved his sweets and was "our Sugar Bear."
Ernie is survived by three children - Frank Allen Monhead (Joel Brown) of Jackson, MS, Lisa Singer of Fenton, MI and Tammy-Sue Monhead Pellett (Jason) of Fenton, MI; daughter-in-law - Lisa Monhead of Conway AR; ten grandchildren - Samantha Pemberton, James Monhead, Daniel Singer, Shian Monhead, Tabitha Singer, Frankie-Lynn Monhead, Emily Graham, Sara Singer, Luke Singer, and Josiah Singer; six great-grandchildren - Kylee, Kaylor, Landon, Dallas, Lakin and Ava; close family friend - Colleen McLachen; siblings - Bill Monhead (Cindy), Shirley Bruce (Warren), Jim Monhead, Fred Monhead, Suzie Borchert (Otto), Rose Maki (Bernie), and Roger Monhead; and numerous nieces and nepehws. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Betty, his wife of over thirty-eight years Judy who died on March 31, 2001, his son Ernest "Jim" Monhead on March 19, 2007, brothers John, Bobby and Sam, sisters Tootsie and Mary, and his parents-in-law - Louis and Agnes Gamelin.
Visiting time with family and friends will take place on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at the Bowerman Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Deacon Tom Moseley will conduct a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising in 2014.
