Ernest "Ernie" Saville, age 85, of N8006 Carmody Road, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 5:00 a.m. at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born on June 5, 1923 in Detroit to John and Hannah (Kendall) Saville. Ernie joined the CCC's and then served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Ernie worked for numerous companies before beginning employment with the Railroad. He met and married Kathleen Belcher and they had two children. Ernie retired from the Railroad and moved back to the Upper Peninsula in 1988. Kathleen preceded him in death in 1989. On May 5, 2000, Ernie married Barbara. He was a member of the American Legion and he enjoyed camping at his cabin. Ernie loved the outdoors and was a woodsman. He was a father and grandfather to anyone who needed one and he loved his pets.
Ernie is survived by his wife Barbara; children - Theresa (John) Laudabush of Fowlerville, Kenneth (Judy) Saville of Munising, Dave Bradford of Gwinn, and Amanda (Jeff) Kelley of Gwinn; grandchildren - John, Kyle, Kenny (Melissa), Shawn, Hallie, Steven, Joseph, and Emily; great-grandchildren - Valerie and Vincent; brothers-in-law - John (Alma) Belcher and Lebrin (Anna) Belcher of West Virginia; and nephew - Terry (Sharon) Hutchinson of Howell.
A memorial service will be on Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Veterans Memorial at the Bay Shore Park in Munising, at 6:00 p.m. The American Legion Honor Guard and Alger County Veterans Council will conduct military honors.
