At 10:26 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2015 our beloved mom, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Etheleen (nee Sharick) Hartwell went home to be with the Lord. She was born in Atlas, Michigan on September 16, 1924 to the late John and Ethel (Monty) Sharick. Etheleen lived most of her life in the Flint, Michigan area.
Etheleen married Ervin Hartwell in 1944. Ervin was a pilot and pilot instructor during WWII. After his discharge from the military, he and Etheleen bought their first airplane and together they flew to the UP to visit her mother in Paradise Michigan, Etheleen fell in love with the UP and moved to "God's Country" after losing her husband to cancer. Etheleen was a devoted mother and home maker; she loved bird watching, gardening, and canning the fruits of her labors, painting, playing the organ and walking on the beach of Lake Superior. Everybody loved her witty sense of humor and sweet smile. She was an avid member of the Women of the Moose in the Fenton area for many years.
Etheleen was preceded in death by her parents, husband and eldest daughter Sharaleen McKay. Etheleen leaves two children to honor her life; son Roger (Bethany) Hartwell of Davisburg, Michigan and daughter Susan (Bob) Scherman of Grand Blanc, Michigan; son-in-law Joseph McKay of Skandia, Michigan. Also left to survive are grandchildren Brian Hartwell, Ginger Hartwell and Jennifer Hartwell, Stacie Scherman, Curtis Love, Susan (Joe) Beauchaine, Dee Ann Hyde, Amy (George) Mannisto III, Luke (Lei) Pickard and Samantha Ballinger. Etheleen also leaves 19 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
A service to celebrate Etheleen's life will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, February 2, 2015 with visitation from noon until 2:00 p.m. with a service beginning at 2:00 p.m.
