Eugene "Gene" J. Dott, age 93, known by some as the Earl of Christmas, died Sunday, April 12, 2015 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. He was born on July 9, 1921 to the late Eugene M. and Ernestine (Bellmore) Dott. Gene graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School. In 1942, he entered into the United States Coast Guard. Gene was honorably discharged in 1946 as Quartermaster 3rd Class, and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal, American Area Campaign and Good Conduct Medals. He moved to Howell, MI after the service and began working as a machinist. Gene married Norma J. Wilson on May 1, 1970. When Gene retired, they moved to the UP to their home in Christmas. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. Gene's favorite thing to do was to watch and cheer for Notre Dame Football.
He was preceded in death by his wife Norma, his parents, and sister.
Private interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.
