Melstrand
Everett Martindale, age 86, of H-58, Melstrand, died on Monday afternoon, June 23, 2014 at his home under the care of his family and North Woods Hospice. He was born on June 13, 1928 in Newberry, Michigan to the late Lloyd and Stella (Minors) Martindale. Everett grew up in the Newberry area and went to work in the woods at a young age. He spent his entire working career as a sawyer and was a well-known and highly sought after logger. Everett worked for himself but also for the Graves, Knuttila, and Carr logging families. He married Shirley Maddox on December 7, 1946 and together they raised their two children. Everett enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at their cabin. He was the "go to handyman" in Melstrand and at Ross Lake.
Everett is survived by his wife of over sixty-seven years - Shirley Martindale of Melstrand; daughter - Jean and Bob Denman of Munising; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Albert Root, son E. Wayne Martindale; brothers Viles "Buck" and Barney Martindale and sisters Nina Overland, Florence Dean, and Ruth Carlson.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising with Father Chris Gardiner conducting the prayers.
