Munising
Florence Mattson, age 88, of Munising, died on Tuesday afternoon, February 3, 2009 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on May 10, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois to John and Frances (Drazinski) Twork. Florence's family moved to Munising when she was a young girl. She attended the old Washington School and then graduated from Sacred Heart School. Florence married Edward Mattson on May 8, 1937 and he preceded her in death on December 22, 1991. She had worked at the Beach Inn, Sylvan Inn, Munising Café, the Ben Franklin, Lester's, and Hub's Super Valu for many years. Florence was also homemaker and raised seven children. She was a member of Eden Lutheran Church enjoyed sewing and crocheting. Florence loved spending time with children and grandchildren - especially during the holiday season. She cooked a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner every year for her family.
Florence is survived by six children - Ed (Jean) Mattson of Munising; Charles (Erica) Mattson of Irmo, SC, Gary "Bob" (Helen) Mattson of Munising, James (Dianne) Mattson of Bartlett, IL, Dorene (John) Sidbeck of Streamwood, IL, and Alice (Willard "Bud") Dover of Claremore, OK; daughter-in-law - Lee Mattson Schultz of Allegan, MI; 15 grandchildren - Julie (Gary) Hahn, Ed (Ann) Mattson, Matthew (Dawn) Mattson, Andrea (Allen) Creighton, Charles (Natalie) Mattson, Robin Mattson, Gary (Julie) Mattson, Elaine (Tom) LeVeque, Terry (Ron) Hoff, Brad Mattson, Carla Watson, John Sidbeck, Patrick (Maryanne) Dover, Kevin (Melanie) Dover, and John L. Mattson; 36 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brothers - Peter (Dorothy) Twork of Conklin, MI and John (Rose) Twork of Danville, IL; sister - Eleanor Goss of Munising; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward, son John Mattson, brothers Leo and Stanley Twork, and a sister Kathryn Dale.
Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and also at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard will conduct Florence's funeral service at the Eden Lutheran Church on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory of Florence are suggested to the Special Olympics or a charity of one's choice.
