Munising
Francis "Fran" Weber, age 62, of 228 E. Onota Street, Munising, died on Wednesday afternoon, January 28, 2009 at the Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan following a three year illness. He was born in Manistique on May 19, 1946 to Vincent and Lucille (Holmberg) Weber. Fran graduated from Manistique High School in 1964 and entered the U.S. Air Force, serving for 4 years. On December 9, 1967, Fran married Joyce Hartman. Following his discharge from the Air Force, he entered the Michigan State Police. He was stationed at the Rockford Post, transferred to the Munising Post in 1976, and retired in 1992. Fran was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved waterskiing, biking and playing tennis until his cancer diagnosis in 2006. Fran loved his church, his family, and especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of over forty-one years - Joyce; daughters and sons-in-law - Erin Weber-Holloway (Chris Holloway) of Greenfield, WI and Shana Weber (Scott Kinney) of Traverse City, MI; grandchildren - Jacqueline and Jacob Holloway and Mia Kinney; his father - Vince Weber of Manistique; sisters - Pat Ann (nee Weber) Ozanich and Deb (nee Weber) and Dave Neadow - both of Manistique; brother - Bob Weber of Manistique; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Fran was preceded in death by his mother - Lucille Weber.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Chris Gardiner on Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Munising. Members of the Michigan State Police will serve as an Honor Guard. A luncheon and time to greet the family will follow the service in the LaMothe Hall of the church.
The family has suggested that in lieu of flowers, donations in Fran's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society.
