Frances "Shorty" L. Roberts

Frances L. "Shorty" Roberts, age 89, of Munising, died peacefully early Sunday afternoon, November 1, 2015 at U.P. Health System - Marquette. She was born on August 14, 1926 in Munising to the late Francis and Bertha (Ketchum) Morrison. Shorty grew up and attended elementary school in Seney and graduated from Grand Marais High School in 1943. She married William Henry Roberts on December 4, 1943 and together they raised their four children. They were married over sixty-eight years when Bill preceded her in death on July 11, 2012. Shorty was a homemaker and also owned the Dairy Queen from 1965 until 1972. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Munising. Shorty was also very involved with the Munising Chapter #424 Order of the Eastern Star. She was very supportive of their charitable projects and held officer positions throughout her entire membership. Shorty loved taking rides in the woods and walking the beach at the Hurricane. She liked to sew and cook and bake for her family. Shorty enjoyed spending time with her family and those friends she considered family.

Shorty is survived by her children - Ronald E. (Maureen) Roberts of Mendenhall, Mississippi, Pamela S. Roberts of Munising, and Terry (Darlene) Roberts of Munising; three grandsons - Jason Roberts, Andrew (Lynda) Roberts, and Terry D. Roberts; two great-grandsons - Hakon and Karson Roberts; sister - June Nettleton of Munising; brother - David "Sonny" (Ruth) Morrison of Seney; sister-in-law - Donna Bevard of Hillsdale, MI; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband - Bill; son - William "Billy" Roberts on December 14, 1992, parents-in-law - Lewis and Emma Roberts; brother - Bill Morrison; infant sister - Beverly Morrison; brothers and sisters-in-law - Donald "Blink" Nettleton, Lyle Bevard, Lewis (Marie) Roberts, Daniel Roberts, Edward (Mary) Roberts, Theodore (Joyce) Roberts, Marion (Lloyd) Carver, and Joan (Bill) Pugh.

Visitation will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 7:00 p.m. Rev. Sandra Kolder will conduct Shorty's funeral service in the Bowerman Funeral Home chapel on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising and a fellowship gathering will take place at the United Methodist Church following the burial.
