Munising
Frances "Fran" M. Sowa, age 90, of 415 Prospect Street, Munising, died at 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on May 12, 1917, in Munising to the late Charles and Blanche (Pearsic) Sowa. Fran worked at Munising Wood Products in her late teens before she accepted employment with the Munising Paper Mill in 1935 where she started as an Inspector in the Finishing Room. On May 2, 1955 she took on the assignment as Sorter in the Finishing Room. On July 18, 1973 she progressed to Head Finisher. Fran retired from the Munising Mill on May 12, 1979 after working at the mill for forty-four years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Munising. Fran's hobbies included bingo, playing cards, and bowling in the women's bowling league.
She is survived by her brother - Ed (Ann) Sowa of Munising; sister - Irene Waeghe of Gladstone; nieces and nephews - John (Teresa) Sowa, Steve (Kathy) Sowa, Mike (Cathy) Sowa, Sharon (Pete) Kochis, and Ed (Vicki) Sowa all of the Munising area, Tom (Marylou) Waeghe of Wilmington, DE, Carson Sowa, Ed, and Kim of the Los Angeles area; numerous great nieces and nephews, and one great-great nephew; sister-in-law Suzanne Sowa. Fran was preceded in death by her parents - Charles and Blanche; brother - Jim Sowa; brother-in-law - Jerome Waeghe, and numerous other relatives.
Visitation will be on Friday, April 11, 2008 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary service at 7:00 p.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home. Fran's funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Chris Gardiner at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12 at the Sacred Heart Church in Munising.
