Francis "Dud" Charles Peterson

Francis Charles "Dud" Peterson, age 90, of Harbor Street in Grand Marais, Michigan, died peacefully at his home on Monday, July 14, 2008. He was born on April 12, 1918 in Grand Marais to the late John and Mary (Hart) Peterson. Dud was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He married Orene Franks who preceded him in death. Dud then married Lillian Johnson. Dud was a life long resident of Grand Marais he loved to talk to friends and family about how thing used to be there, and he enjoyed watching local channel 29 to watch the camera that panned through town. He was a great man who loved his grandchildren greatly and loved to make all of his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews laugh, especially when he would take them on their trips to McDonalds for ice cream. Nothing proves his love for family more than when he took in his eleven year old grand daughter Trish and raise her.
Dud is survived by his granddaughter - Patricia (Boyd) Wissbroecker of Minnesota; great-grandchildren - Amber, Camille, Anthony, and Kyle; great-great-grandchildren - Kaven and Afton; daughters - Wanda (Bobby) Griffith and Leona (Henry) Powell; brother - William (Dorothy) Peterson; sisters - Iva Rubenstein, Dorothy Morrison, Theresa Swain, Regina Hughey, Janet (Hayward) Peacock, and Janice Moss; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wives - Orene and Lillian; brother - Lawrence Peterson; sister - Marilyn Johnson; children James Morse and Maxine Shook; and great-grandson - Andrew Charles.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Holy Rosary Church in Grand Marais from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. Dud's Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Frank Ricca beging at 11:00 a.m. at the church on July 18. Interment will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Grand Marais, with the Alger County Veterans Council conducting military honors. Memorials can be made in Dud's name to the Save the Harbor fund of Grand Marais.
