Munising / Melstrand
Franklin T. "Frank" Stebbins, age 81, of Munising and formerly of Melstrand, died on Thursday afternoon, October 30, 2014 at Munising Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 11, 1933 in Owosso, Michigan to the late Frank and Irma (Shatler) Stebbins. He graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School and entered into the U.S. Navy. After two years in the Navy, he moved to Dearborn, where he was a mailman. After some time, he re-enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and became a jet engine technician. While stationed in England, he met and married Anne Gilman and together they had two children. Frank returned to the U.S. in 1972 and retired from the Air Force in 1974 with over twenty years of active service. He then became a traveling salesman for tool and auto parts. Frank also managed the Holiday Station and then retired from Timber Products where he had worked in the yard driving trucks to supply the veneer mills. He enjoyed the Detroit Tigers and Lions and loved rides in the woods and fishing.
Frank is survived by his two children - Russell (Lisa) Stebbins of South Lyon, MI and Valerie Stebbins of Menominee, MI; grandchildren - Shawn, Jakob, Owen, Jackson, and Sara; sister - Janet (Jim) Serba of Grand Rapids, MI; brother - Gaylord Stebbins of Lancaster, CA; and former wife - Anne Stebbins. He was preceded in death by his par-ents Frank and Irma.
