Wetmore Fred A. Cornish, age 86, of Townline Lake in Wetmore died Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at Munising Memorial Hospital. He was born on April 17, 1927 in Wetmore to the late Jesse and Margaret (Tedford) Cornish. Fred entered the U.S. Army in December of 1945 and was honorably discharged in June 1947. He married Edna Marie Stigall on July 1, 1949, and together they raised their five children. Fred worked for many years at Kimberly Clark and retired from the Beater Room. Aside from the mill, Fred enjoyed working in the woods, cutting pulp and firewood, and hunting and fishing. Fred loved to play music, teaching himself how to play by ear; the Hawaiian steel, fiddle, and his favorites the guitar and mandolin. He enjoyed sharing his music, playing for his kids and grandkids, and volunteering his talents at the nursing homes. Fred is survived by his children - Delores "Dorry" Reed of Wetmore, Fred (Tarry) Cornish of Indiantown, and LeRoy and Dale Cornish of Townline Lake; daughter-in-law - Linda (Jerry) Schwake of Wetmore; grandchildren - Patty Reed, Bill (Jen) Cornish, Lisa (Ken) Mattson, Cynthia Cornish, Michael (Annette) Cornish, Shannan (John) Davis, and Catherine (Scott) Adams; great-grandchildren - Maci, Dylan, Jason, Annabel, James, Alexander, Henry, Aerwyn, Jessey, Andrew, and Rhedyn; brother - Tom (Daisy); and sisters - Betty and Kay. He was preceded in death by his parents - Jesse and Margaret; wife - Edna Marie Cornish; son - Jesse Cornish; sisters - Violet and Edna Mae; and brother - Raymond. The American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guard will conduct Fred's graveside service on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Munising Township Cemetery in Wetmore.
