Fred Krajewski

Frederick G. Krajewski, Sr., age 93, of Munising, died Friday morning, December 13, 2024 at Harbour View Assisted Living. He was born the youngest of seven children on July 20, 1931 in Munising to Frank and Mary (Drazinski) Krajewski. Fred graduated from Sacred Heart School and then Wm. G. Mather High School in 1949. During his Munising Mustang days, Fred was a standout football and track athlete. He served our country as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard. Fred was stationed in Plymouth, MA where he enjoyed being a light house keeper. He worked on numerous lighthouses in the Northeast. Fred enjoyed that time of service in his life. His last station was in Munising and he married his high school sweetheart, Margaret “Muggs” Melwiki on November 22, 1952 and together they raised their three children. Fred worked briefly in Marquette as a butcher and returned to Munising to begin employment at Kimberly Clark. Fred became a millwright and then superintendent of the Power House and Finishing Room. Known as “Freddy” throughout the mill, he loved his job and enjoyed walking the floors and talking to people. Fred retired in 1991. He and Muggs enjoyed wintering in Florida and Georgia over the years. Fred was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church and of the Knights of Columbus. He was active in the Munising Planning Commission, the Toastmasters Club, a member of the Moose Lodge, and the American Legion. Fred was creative and innovative. He loved to paint, tinker in the basement, and could MacGyver anything. Fred loved to be outdoors and enjoyed the bow and rifle deer seasons, fishing, spending time with family on their camp on Twin Lakes, snowmobiling, and he had a deep appreciation and respect for Lake Superior. In his later years, a trip to Holiday for coffee was one of his daily routines. The trip for coffee was an excuse for him to go out and talk to people. Fred loved to visit, share stories, and laugh. He always found the positive and encouraged his family to follow that advice. He loved spending time with his family.

By example, Fred led a beautiful life filled with Faith, Family, and Friends. His life will be celebrated for generations by those who loved him. “Love you twice.”
