Fenton / Munising
Gary John Gurski Sr., age 60, of Fenton, Michigan, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at the Hospice Suites at 580 College Ave. in Marquette. He was born on November 20, 1947, in Munising, Michigan to the late Walter and Marguerite (McNally) Gurski. Gary grew up in Munising, and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1965. After graduation he began working at General Motors before entering the U.S. Army in June of 1967. On March 2, 1968, Gary married Char Perry. Shortly after they were married, Gary and Char moved to Budengin, Germany where he was stationed. After Gary was honorably discharged from the Army, he returned to General Motors where worked for 42.6 years until his retirement on July 1, 2008. Gary was an avid deer hunter, he enjoyed photography, restoring old photos, taking his grandson Josh to meet the coffee group at Panera, and then going to Home Depot whether he needed something or not. He was the kind of guy who thought outside the box, he was always fixing, restoring, customizing, and all around making household items better. Gary loved to visit the U.P.; it was the only thing that he used his vacation time on, between snowmobiling and hunting the illusive whitetail. He could talk to anyone and would be willing to help you if he knew you or not, but he always put his family first. Gary was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
He is survived by his wife of over 40 years - Char Gurski of Fenton, MI; daughter - Melissa Gurski of Fenton; son - Gary (Misty) Gurski Jr., of Fenton; grandson - Josh Gurski; sister - Karen (Jim) Kohlbeck of Munising; brothers - Allen (Karen) Gurski of Munising and Ronald (Patty) Gurski of Washington; and several loved nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Marguerite, and brother Warren Gurski.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Gary's Funeral will be on Saturday, July 19 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Munising at 11:00a.m.
