Munising
Gary P. Myjak, age 66, of High Street, Munising, died Friday, August 6, 2010 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising following a brief illness. A native and lifelong resident of Munising, he was born on September 12, 1943. He attended Sacred Heart School. Gary was a member of the class of 1961 at Wm. G. Mather until he was set back after he broke his ankle in ninth grade. Then in his senior year of 1962, Gary was set back again, this time due to too much time in his fish shack, and having his nose in a book. Finally, Gary graduated with the class of 1963 finishing the year with perfect attendance, due to a $1.00 bet he held with Mr. Jack Carberry. He was a U.S. Merchant Mariner and retired as a Quarter Master with thirty-nine years with Interlake Steamship Company. Gary enjoyed driving his hardtop convertible, music, books, hunting for agates and loved playing the slots at the casinos.
He is survived by his three sisters - Darlene Myjak (Riku Heikkila) of Munising, Carol Jean (Gerald) Micheau of Gladstone, Sr. Donna Myjak of Iron Mountain, and sister-in-law, Sharon Myjak, Grand Rapids; his second family Ed (who preceded him in May of 2009) and Pat Rzanca family; and dog - Muttsy. Gary was preceded in death by his parents - Stanley J. and Mary (Colbus) Myjak, Sr.; brother - Stanley J. "Sunny" Myjak, Jr.; three sisters and brother-in-laws - Jean (Leo) Dykczynski, Amelia (Paul) Jackewicy, and Rose Evens (Paul Funderburg).
