Trenary
Gary A. Venturato, age 67, of Vogel Road, Trenary/Rapid River, died unexpectedly at his home following a lengthy illness with COPD, early Thursday morning, July 5, 2012. He was born on June 17, 1945 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Dominic and Edna (Massey) Venturato. Gary graduated from Grand Marais High School in 1963. That July he enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps., and was honorably discharged in October of 1966 as a Lance Corporal. Gary's military service did not end there; he then entered into the Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1997 as a Sergeant of the Detachment 1 1075th Maintenance Company, and finally retired as a Staff Sergeant from the Army Reserve in June of 2005. Gary married Fairy H. Livermore on September 4, 1993. Gary spent his life working as a civil servant in many places spending many years at K.I. Sawyer, and in the ship yards in Long Beach, California. He was a Jack of all trades, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He volunteered as an E.M.S. in Grand Marais and was a member of the American Legion in Little Lake, Michigan. Gary was also a member of the Limestone Baptist Church, where he helped construct many parade floats and was an instrumental visionary of the church's pavilion.
He is survived by his wife of nearly nineteen years - Fairy of Trenary; mother - Edna Johnson; two daughters - Edna Renae (Ronald Monroe) Price of Norway, MI and Ann (Randy) Benson of Kempner, TX; grandchildren - Jonathan, Laura, Gabriel, and Becca; brothers - John (JoAnn) and Dominic "Joe" Venturato, Denis (Paula), Jimmy (Patty), and Bob (Dawne) Johnson; sisters Debbra (Cliff) Beek and Terri O'Driscoll; mother and father-in-law - Kathy and Schley Livermore; sisters-in-law - Edna (Tony) Loosa and Dawn (Scott) Hall; former wife and friend - Judy Venturato; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Gary was preceded in death by his father - Dominic; sister-in-law - Liz Venturato; nephew - Richard Venturato; nieces - Elizabeth "Lisa" Venturato and Dorothy Venturato Dutcher; and stepfather - Arvid Johnson.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at the Limestone Baptist Church in Limestone from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. At 3:00 p.m. the American Legion and Vietnam Veterans Honor Guards will conduct military honors outside at the church's pavilion which Gary helped envision. Immediately following Pastor Ted Jolls will begin Gary's memorial in the church.
