George Michael Lane, age 68, of Wetmore, died early Tuesday morning, October 19, 2021, at UP Health System – Marquette following a weeklong illness. He was born February 16, 1953, in Munising to the late James and Betty (Stephens) Lane. George attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in the class of 1971. He was a lifelong resident of the Munising area.
George married Sandy LeVeque and together raised their daughter Tammy. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church. He worked as an aide at the Munising Health Haven, and Munising Memorial Hospital. He also worked at Sacred Heart Church and the Munising Housing Commission as a Maintenance Supervisor up until his retirement in 2016. George enjoyed fishing, kayaking, camping, and wood working especially creating wooden bowls and candlesticks on the lathe.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law – Tammy and Duke Maddox of Menasha, WI; granddaughter – Kathrina Maddox of Inver Grove Heights, MN; grandson – Devin Maddox of Duluth, MN; great-granddaughter – Kendra; partner - Shirley Stone of Wetmore; siblings – Donna (Ray) Gollinger and Bob Lane; sisters and brothers-in-law – Bonnie (Don) Heyrman, Sue (Lyle) Rushford, Patty LeVeque, Pam LeVeque, Tom (Billie) LeVeque, and Ken LeVeque; and numerous nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his wife Sandy Lane, parents, and brother Jim Lane.
In keeping with George’s wishes no public services will be held.
