Trenary
George Nazarko, age 77, of Trenary, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at his home. He was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late Nicholas and Grace (Huillet) Nazarko. George graduated from Cranbrook High School in 1962 and then earned his bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame. He married Susan Kovach on October 14, 1967 and together they raised their three children. George enlisted into the United States Air Force, he became a Tech Sergeant and then entered OTS eventually becoming a Captain. George wore many hats in the Air Force over his career serving as a Russian linguist, bomber navigator, and with the air mission planning cell. He was stationed at K.I. Sawyer from 1976 until he retired after twenty years of service in 1986. George worked for Super Com, a paging company where he did a little of everything, from sales and billing to tower maintenance. George became a Deputy Sheriff for Alger County and worked with the Alger EMS. He was a founding member of the Mathias Township First Responders and provided urgent care to countless friends and neighbors. George was a talented wood worker and became an avid wildlife photographer, saying he hunted deer with a Canon.
He is survived by his children Nick (Kaye) Nazarko of Ft. Worth, Texas, Natalia (Craig) Jauquet of Roseau, Minnesota, and Gregory Nazarko of New Orleans, Louisiana; grandchildren – Mason and Braeden Nazarko and Lillian and Grace Jauquet. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of fifty-four years Susan.
