George Russell Robb, age 85, of 931 W. Superior Street, Munising, died on Sunday afternoon, July 17, 2011 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising following a brief illness. He was born on September 5, 1925 in Madison, Wisconsin to the late George and Sena (Mickelson) Robb. George graduated from East High School in Madison and then joined the U.S. Navy during WWII. After the Navy, he returned to Madison and worked in a factory job. His sister Helen had moved to Munising to teach during the War. She met and married Lud Carr and they owned the Brown Derby in Christmas. George accepted the invitation to come north to help them out at the bar. He and Lud decided to go into business together. They formed the partnership of Carr and Robb Logging Contractors and worked together over thirty years. After retirement, George enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and he loved taking people out fishing on the Big Lake.
George is survived by his sister - Helen Carr of Munising; brothers - Harold (Doris) Robb of Beloit, WI and Donald Robb of Madison, WI; niece - Donna (Kirk) Anderson of Phoenix, AZ; great-niece Bonnie and great-nephew Ben. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Florence Raggio and brothers-in-law Lud Carr and Peter Raggio.
Pastor Elisabeth Zant will conduct a memorial service at the Eden Lutheran Church on Thursday, July 21, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
