Munising
Georgine A. Mousseau, age 79, of Munising and formerly of Capac, Michigan, died Monday, July 29, 2024 at her home under the loving care of her family and North Woods Home Hospice. She was born on June 22, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to the late George and Olga (Sagety) Koval. She grew up in East Detroit and graduated from East Detroit High in 1963. On February 20, 1964, Georgine married her childhood sweetheart, Duane R. Mousseau, and together they raised their three children. She was a stay-at-home mom who lovingly cared for her household. Georgine was an avid knitter, and she even spun her own wool to make yarn. She worked countless hours in her beautiful shade gardens that from time to time became dinner for the deer. Georgine loved to travel with Duane, her family, and lifelong friend Marlean. They traveled all over the US visiting Hawaii, California, Arizona and Florida and she cherished her trip to Ireland. In her younger years, she enjoyed hiking and snowshoeing with Duane, and they enjoyed going to geologist rock club meetings. Georgine and Duane moved to the Upper Peninsula in 1994 where they built their home at 16 Mile Lake. Shortly after moving to the UP they purchased and operated the Sand River Motel Bed and Breakfast and Party Store for five years. Georgine loved caring for her beloved Yorkies: Reggie, Willie, and Tigger. She loved spending time with her family and was happiest when surrounded by them.
Georgine is survived by her husband – Duane Mousseau of Munising; children – Duane (Jennifer) Mousseau of Riley, MI, Dawn (Larry) Cowhy of Emmett, MI, and Eric (Karleen Cipriano) Mousseau of Harris Township, MI; grandchildren – Duane Christopher (Jessica) Mousseau, Ashley Mousseau, Sarah Rose Mousseau, Michael Cowhy, Luke Cowhy, and Jack (Madison Wheeler) Cowhy; great-grandchildren – Emerson and Hadley Mousseau; and sister – Catherine Roberts. She was preceded in death by her mother – Olga Koval and father – George (Jean) Koval.
A special thanks to Christine, Donna, and Amy from North Woods and Barb from Alger Commission on Aging for their compassion and care for Georgine
