Grand Marais
Gerald S. "Jerry" Purple, age 47, of Grand Marais, died on Tuesday evening, April 9, 2013 at the Helen Newberry Joy Hospital in Newberry. He was born on April 26, 1965 in Munising to the late Gerald and Helen (Nyman) Purple. Jerry was an avid outdoorsman who took full advantage of living in Grand Maris to hunt and fish. He enjoyed playing basketball in his younger years, spending time with family at the Nyman Camp, and fighting with his sisters. Above all Jerry loved his children very much.
He is survived by his four children - Christopher Purple of Madison Heights, MI, Gerald "Scott" Purple, Jr. of Mt. Clemons, MI, Nathan Purple of Grand Marais, and Cassaundra Purple of Howell, MI; four grandchildren - Harold, Vincent, Onalee, and Adelynn; brother - Craig (Heather) Purple; sisters - Cindy (Donald) Smith and Lynn (Marvin) Eddleman; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Helen and Gerald.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Grand Marais, MI. Pastors Jon and Sharon Babbitt will conduct Jerry's memorial service at 1:00 p.m., with a luncheon to follow.
