Marquette
Gerald Reeves, Sr. age 73, of Marquette and formerly of Munising, died early Monday morning, March 26, 2018 at his home under the care of his family and U.P. Home Health and Hospice. He was born on August 16, 1944 in Waverly, New York to Clarence and Betty (Kent) Reeves.
Jerry, spent his youth in Waverly, NY near his grandparent’s farm and later would move to the Detroit area. Some of his fondest memories are of his time spent on the farm with his grandpa Reeves, uncles and cousins learning to ride horses and help on a dairy farm. His father accepted a job in Michigan and Jerry and sister Barbara moved with their parents to Detroit. He went to school in Detroit and met his future wife, Janice.
Gerald married Janice Lee Czechowski on January 27, 1968 and together raised their four children. They were married forty-nine years when Janice preceded him in death on February 27, 2017.
Jerry's hobbies and interest centered around the outdoors and anything Western. When his children were younger he enjoyed taking the family and participating in Civil War reenactments. He loved horses and taught his children to ride and develop a respect for them. There wasn't a Western he wouldn't stop to watch and many he saw dozens of times each. His greatest enjoyment came however from fishing. Jerry loved to share his knowledge of various techniques on how to catch the different kinds of fish with his children, nephews, and grandchildren. His greatest pride was fishing with his grandchildren and the bond he had with his, nephews Danny & Chris and his late brother Chuck doing something they loved together.
Gerald is survived by his children - Charleen (Chris) France of Endicott, NY, Jerry Reeves, Jr. of Marquette, Rebecca Dwight (Kevin Osborne) of Eben Junction, and Sharon J. Reeves of Munising; grandchildren – Alana, Amara, Bryce, and Devyn; numerous nieces and nephews, sister-in-law, & brother in laws. Gerald was preceded in death by his wife Jan, parents Clarence and Betty, brother Chuck Reeves and sister Barbara.
A family gathering and memorial service will take place during the summer.
