Munising
Gerald F. “Jerry” Hendricks, age 82, of Munising, died early Wednesday morning, August 28, 2019 at Munising Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Wyandotte, Michigan to the late Floyd and Mary (Brnetich) Hendricks. Jerry graduated from Slocum-Truax High School in Trenton, Michigan. He then entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in California as a missile technician until he was honorably discharged. Jerry married Margaret (Slatton) Gilbert on February 9, 1963. He began working for McLouth Steel in Trenton, and then became a custodian for the Trenton High School, a job he held for over thirty years before retiring. Jerry, Marg, and their two sons enjoyed camping, and due to their frequent visits to the Upper Peninsula, they fell in love with the U.P. and moved to Munising after retirement. Jerry enjoyed going out in search of blueberries to eat and share with family and spending his mornings with his friends at the coffee klatches at Falling Rock Café and Hardee’s. He was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church in Munising.
Jerry is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Gary and Rita Gilbert of Munising and his little buddy Pettie the Jack Russell Terrier. He was preceded in death by his wife Marg Hendricks, son Greg Hendricks, parents Floyd and Mary, and siblings Bob Hendricks and Sharon Watchmaker.
No public services will be held at this time. Memorials in Jerry’s name may be made to Alger County Animal Shelter.
