Gina Lynn Lutey

May 24, 1965 — May 13, 2014

Munising Gina Lynn Lutey, age 48, of 802 W. Superior Street in Munising, died unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, May 13, 2014. She was born in Munising on May 24, 1965, daughter of John and Linda (Murk) Carlson. Gina graduated from Munising High School in 1983. Throughout all of her employment in life, Gina always had a job where she was caring for someone. She worked at Superior Shores as an aide, at U.P. Sports Medicine where she enjoyed helping people get back on track after their injuries, Wright and Filippis where she helped people regain their independence for seventeen years and most recently at Harbour View in Munising. Throughout all of Gina's life, the most important thing to her and what always re-centered her world was being a mother and grandmother. As a single mom in Marquette, she met a young Russ B. Lutey. Gina and Russ knew they had something special and after a strong handshake and showing up on a Harley, Gina's son Richard said, "He'll do." They were married in 1995 and together they had a wonderful, loving and fun family life. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Morgan Marie in 1997. Russ and Gina had a "thing" for motorcycles. She was a biker and they enjoyed travelling all over the country and being with their biker friends. On July 6, 2001, Russ was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident when the bike they were riding struck a deer. Although he was no longer physically present in their lives, his spirit and many of his traits have lived on through Morgan as she has grown. Gina's heart never really recovered from her family's loss of Russ. As a person, she was beautiful on the inside and out. Gina was a bit of a trend setter and had a gift of artistic talent when it came to interior design. She was a fighter, a hard worker who was proud of the work she did, a caregiver, a free spirit, a loving daughter, wife, sister and aunt, but most of all.....Mom and Grandma. She is survived by her children - Richard (Chelsea) Prunick of Wetmore and Morgan Lutey of Munising; granddaughter - Julia Ashlynn Prunick; parents - John and Linda Carlson of Munising; sisters - Nicole Robinson of Wetmore and Sara Holloway of Munising; nieces and nephews - Mikala, Lily, Russ, Elizabeth, Matthew, Cameron, Amanda, Samantha, Sara, Jenna and Jake; parents-in-law - Dick and Nancy Lutey and Gretchen Lutey-Long; siblings-in-law - Chris Lutey, Phil Lutey and Tim Lutey; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Gina was preceded in death by her husband Russ, father-in-law Richard Long, grandparents Ed and Lil Murk and Mae and Roger Carlson and her special great-aunt Stella Johnson who was a very important part of Gina's life when she was growing up in Munising. Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Saturday, May 17, 2014. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Pastor Kyle Detmers of the Marquette Bible Church will conduct Gina's funeral service at 5:00 p.m. Following the funeral, a fellowship gathering will take place at the American Legion in Munising. In lieu of flowers, an account in Morgan's name has been established at the People State Bank in Munising.
