Wetmore
Gloria Jean Johns was born to the late Harold and Jean (Balko) Johns on January 17, 1957 at the time of her death she was 68 years old. Gloria lived in Sterling Heights, Michigan and died on February 2, 2025 at her home following a year long illness. She grew up in Wetmore and graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1975. After graduation, Gloria joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Schofiled Army base on Oahu Hawaii and also in Germany and South Korea. After ten years of service, she came home to Wetmore. Gloria moved to Flint and started college at Mott Community College. She earned her degree in Electronic Technology with high honors. After college she worked at Nortel Communications for several years and then at Beaumont Hospital where she worked until the time of her death. Gloria enjoyed traveling to as many of the National Parks in the United States with Laura taking pictures of all of the waterfalls, animals, and scenery.
Gloria is survived by her partner – Laura Brunk; sisters – Carol Johns, Susan (Linda Flaviani) Johns, and Kathy (Jose) Cuautle; brother – Harold (Lydia) Johns; aunt – Marge Schultz; nieces – Heather Johns and Crystal Smith; nephews – Phillip Cuautle, Paul, Matthew, and Andrew Johns; great-nephew – Flynn Smith; aunts – Opal Kyllonen, Janet Miron, and Marilyn Johns; uncle – Allen Miron; numerous cousins; extended family – Patty (Brunk) Kitchen, Jessica, Amanda, and Rachel Kitchen. She was preceded in death by her father Harold Johns, mother Jean (Balko) Johns, grandmothers Emma Miron and Ada Johns, grandfathers William Balko, Gordan Miron and Lyman Johns, and aunts and uncles Harriet Fitzgerald, Anita Hase, Edith Johns, Dorothy Johns, William Balko, Norman Balko, Ivan Johns, Clayton Johnson, Jimmy Johns, Stanley Johns, Gordon Miron, and Donald Miron.
Military honors will be rendered by the Alger County Veterans Honor Guard on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at the Munising Township Cemetery in Wetmore at 11:30 a.m.
