Munising
Grant "Tim" Barabas, age 71, of 200 W. City Park Drive, Munising, died unexpectedly Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Marquette General Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born on May 13, 1942 in Pontiac, Michigan and Tim graduated from Allen Park High School. He married Verna Miller in 1963 and together they raised their two children. Tim managed the sporting goods section at Kmart when they lived downstate. In 1969, their family moved to Munising and Tim owned and operated the Lakeside Lane Bowling Alley for ten years. After selling the business, he continued working there for many years. Tim also worked at the radio station in Munising. He was a member of the Lions Club, Munising Booster Club, Moose Lodge, and the Munising Bay Music Fest Committee. Tim loved to paint. He enjoyed playing cards, snowmobiling, riding in the woods, coffee klatching at the bakery, fishing when he was physically able, and pulling practical jokes. Tim was Lions, Tigers, and Red Wings fan. He was a selfless man and really treasured spending time with his grandson, Brandon.
He is survived by his two children - Blaine (Becky) Barabas of Marquette and Lisa Barabas of Wetmore; grandson - Brandon Barabas; great-granddaughter - Brooklynn Barabas; sisters - Glessna (Edmond) Coisson and Martha (Bill) Smith; brother - Leonard; and numerous nieces and nephews. Tim was preceded in death by his parents Jospeh and Betty (Deo) Barabas and a brother-in-law - Edward Yurgen.
Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home on Monday, September 16, 2013. Visiting time with family and friends will be from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Rev. Jim Ramelis will conduct Tim's memorial service at 2:00 p.m.
