Gregory L. Nelson

Gregory L. Nelson, age 66 of Grand Marais, died on Friday, July 8, 2022 at UPHS Marquette.  Greg was born on July 27, 1955 in Lansing, Michigan to the late Reginald Nelson and Marilyn (Ayers) Nelson.  Greg spent many years in the South in a long career at the dog and horse racing tracks. He returned to Michigan to be with his daughter Jessica Weaver and his granddaughters, June and Lucy.  Greg loved helping Jess in any way he could and especially loved being a grandpa.

He was very easy going and friendly and warmed the hearts of many. He had a way of making people feel comfortable with his laid back, calm personality.

He took on the job as harbor master and was very attentive to all the boaters that came in.  He got to know many of them and also knew all about their boat.  He had a special gift at the marina, and he really loved his job there.

He is survived by his brother Michael Nelson of Gaylord, Michigan along with many nieces, nephews and stepfamily.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Marilyn and Weldon “Smoke” Stover, his father Reginald Nelson, brother Dennis Nelson and sister Cindy Nelson.

Greg will be deeply missed.  We know he is resting in peace after a hard- fought battle with cancer.
