Gretta Florence Morrison

January 26, 1928 — July 5, 2013

Munising
Gretta Florence (Knox) Morrison, age 85, of 214 Lynn Street, Munising died unexpectedly at her home on Friday morning, July 5, 2013. She was born on January 26, 1928 in Munising to the late John and Pearl (McCombs) Knox. Gretta graduated from Wm. G. Mather High School in 1946. She then went to cosmetology school in Marquette. Gretta began her career as a beautician in 1948 at Powder Puff and then owned her own business out of her home. Gretta married Ed Morrison on October 16, 1954 and together they raised their family. Gretta worked as a cashier for many years at the Red Owl and spent a few summers working in the gift shop at Horseshoe Falls. After their retirement, she and Ed managed the Munising Tourist Park for eight years. There were many great family memories around the campfire. They were very proud of their nine children and grandchildren and they enjoyed traveling wherever the kids were. Ed and Gretta were married fifty-six years when he preceded her in death on November 13, 2010. Gretta's faith was very important to her and she was an active member at Eden Lutheran Church. She was the world's greatest short order cook - every child wanted something different and she catered to their wants. Family was the most important part of her life. She was a hands on Grandma, playing on the floor when they were little. She taught them to be still and work a puzzle and she always read to the grandbabies. Gretta's kitchen was always open for ice cream cones - even at midnight. The Morrison home was alive with laughter for every holiday. She also made beautiful quilts for all of her children and grandchildren. Gretta also went to countless sporting events to cheer on the grandkids.

Gretta is survived by her nine children - Kathy (Bill) Watson of Whitmore Lake, MI, Larry Dunklee of Venice, FL, Ed (Marilyn) Morrison of Marquette, Mary Jo "MoJo" (Jack) Gariepy of Munising, Dick (Mary Beth) Morrison of Columbus, OH, Tim (Ann) Morrison of Munising, Tom (Marsha) Morrison of Munising, Bill (Rita) Morrison of Munising, and David (Alison) Morrison of Flushing; twenty-two grandchildren - Shelley (Randy), Wendy, Christie (Brian), Janelle (Justin), Derek, Hope (Don), Rhonda (Jerry), Sonya (Norbert), Aaron, Trevor, Robert, Patrick (Vicky), Jennifer (Corey), Kristie (Rich), Brook (Derek), Ashley, Chad (Jennifer), Dale, Corey, Brandon, Nicholas, and Elizabeth; twenty-five great-grandchildren - Dylan, Chase, Erin , Emma, Isaiah, Micah, Gwyn, Paris, Reese, Oralia, Emilio, Aden, Brody, Calvin, Alyssa, Dylan, Hattie Sue, Dayne, Duray, Garret, Alyssia, Blaise, Drake, Ember, Jayden, and two on the way; sister - Grace Bjerke of Zion, IL; brother-in-law - Jim Tallman; sister-in-law - Dawn Morrison; several nieces and nephews; and lifelong friend - Janet Lezotte.
