Munising
Guy I. Frederick, age 64, of Munising and formerly of Grand Rapids, MI died Friday, December 20, 2024 at UPHS Marquette following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on November 2, 1960 in Marquette to Dean and Bonnie (Bugg) Frederick. Guy grew up in Munising and was a member of the class of 1979. In his younger years, Guy was a bit mischievous, but no matter what he did when he was confronted by his parents, he was always honest. Guy played football and was an outstanding wrestler for the Mustangs. He transferred to Grand Rapids Christian for his senior year where he took 4th place in the State for wrestling. Guy went to community college in Grand Rapids and then started his career in quality control. He worked for Keeler Brass for seventeen years and then for Atwood Marine for twelve years assuring quality on numerous boat components and accessories. Guy had an eye for quality and had a great business mind. He started a second career buying and selling antiques, artifacts, and memorabilia on eBay. He spent many hours online searching for good finds and deals and would stop at almost every garage sale to find a new treasure. Guy loved rock and roll music and history and had a thirst for knowledge. He decided he wanted to play the guitar, so he taught himself; he wanted to speak to a friend in Spanish, so he taught himself Spanish. He had great respect for and immersed himself in Native American Heritage and wanted to learn all he could about their history. Guy was never afraid to learn something new. He was a tinkerer and inventor taking apart a motorcycle or a watch just to put them back together. He loved to master a new project and move on to the next. Guy was very intelligent, and his brain never quit. He had a great business mind. He was meticulous, observant, and took great notes. Some said he could be bossy, but he had thought things through so much, he knew it was the right way to be done. Guy loved his family tree farm and took great pride in serving the communities in Munising, Tustin, MI, and beyond. He worked hard on the farms cutting, trimming, and having controlled brush burns that at times got a little bigger than you would expect. Guy was an integral part of growing the business and perfecting the shipping of Christmas trees and wreaths, shipping hundreds of them each year. Trees were shipped to customers as far away as Hawaii and to his nephew serving our country in Iraq so he and his fellow soldiers could feel the Christmas spirit when they were away from family. Guy received countless thank you notes, letters, autographs, and gifts from families and famous people. Frederick’s trees stood in the homes of Phyllis Diller, John Travolta, Leslie Nielson, Jim Carrey, and was given a shout out on national radio thanking them for the delivery of his Frederick Evergreen by Rush Limbaugh. These past few years have been some of Guy’s happiest, because he reconnected with his high school crush Marcy. On August 6, 2021 Guy married Marcy Denman-Heimerman and together they brought each other great joy. Marcy helped get Guy out of his comfort levels and they enjoyed backpack hikes, kayaking, and wintering in Florida and taking trips to the beaches and Busch Gardens where Guy had to ride every roller coaster there was. Guy had a great sense of humor, and his love of music, history, and his family will never be forgotten.
Guy is survived by his wife – Marcy Frederick of Munising; mother – Bonnie Frederick of Munising; daughters – Ashley (Travis) Quick of Delton, MI and Mackenzie (Craig) Scott of Grand Rapids; step-children – Ame Prunick, Joe (Angeline) Prunick, and Haylee Heimerman; grandchildren and step-grandchildren – Joey, Vivian, C.J., Vinnie, Kaitlin (Trevor), Cailean, Lathan, Jaxon, Curtis, Jordy, Cora, Mya, Dillan, Ryan, and Alex; siblings – Rod (Mary) Frederick, Todd (Rose) Frederick, Cathy (Brian) Gurski, and Kristine Frederick; numerous nieces nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and longtime friends – Tony Nettleton and Ryan Rockwell. He was preceded in death by his father Dean Frederick.
