Harry Walther Gohl, age 84, of Mount Clemens, Michigan died unexpectedly at his home on Friday, March 7, 2014. He was born on April 8, 1929 in Alpena to the late Albert and Alda (Schultz) Gohl. Harry grew up in Alpena and attended school there. His family moved to Detroit and Harry went to work in the family's tool and die shop. He served in the U.S. Army during Korea. After the service, Harry married Ruth S. Kamppinen and together they raised their six children. He spent his entire working career in the Tool and Die Industry. Harry worked for a few different companies before going to work for Braun Industries which is where he retired. He and his sons enjoyed fishing together when they were younger. Harry loved baseball and was a huge Tigers fan.
He is survived by his six children - Larry (Ursula) Gohl of Chatham, Jeff (Susan) Gohl of Chatham, Donna Gohl of Chatham, Amy (Rick) Ross of Fort Gratiot, MI, Jana Gohl of Chatham and Daniel (Robin) Gohl of Montana; grandchildren - Erik, Simon, Andrew, Mario, April (Adam), Taylor (Amanda), Amelia, Nicholas, Charlie, Craig, Danny, Kole and Dustin; great-grandchildren - Aidan, Owen, Stephanie, Riley and Natalya; numerous nieces and nephews; and brother Don Gohl. Harry was preceded in death by his parents, former wife Ruth Gohl, brother Ed and sisters Helen, Wilma, Hildegard and Lillian.
Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Saturday, March 15, 2014. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. The American Legion and Vietnam Veteran Honor Guards will conduct military honors at noon. Roger Kangas will conduct Harry's funeral service following the Veterans service. Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham.
