Helen Pauline Perry, age 89, of Grand Marais, died unexpectedly on her walk on Sunday afternoon, February 21, 2016. She was born on January 30, 1927 in Manistique to Marcus and Angela (Frankovich) Burnis. Helen graduated from Manistique High School in 1945. She married Paul Joseph Perry on October 21, 1946. They were members of St. Francis Church in Manistique and Helen was a member of St. Ann and St. Bernadette Circles. Helen was a homemaker and raised three sons. In 1977, Paul and Helen moved to Grand Marais and they became members of Holy Rosary Church. Helen was active in the Holy Rosary Church and in the Grand Marais Community. She loved picking agates and blueberries, bird hunting, walking, shopping, working jigsaw puzzles, playing cribbage, and taking trips to the casino.
She is survived by her three sons – Paul Perry, Jr. of Manistique, William (Ginny) Perry of Lino Lakes, MN and Dave (Barb) Perry of Manistique; six grandsons – Steve, Chris, Bill, Bobby, Jeff, and Jeremy; her one and only granddaughter – Carla; twenty-five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother – Marcus “Buck” (Joyce) Burnis of Gulliver; sister – Ruth Ann (Robert) Johnson of Manistique; and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul on February 10, 2012, and an infant sister.
Services will be held at the Holy Rosary Church in Grand Marais on Thursday, February 25, 2016. Visitation will be at the church from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Father Timothy Hruska will celebrate Helen’s Mass of Christian Burial at noon. Interment will follow at the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Grand Marais.
In lieu of flowers memorials are requested to be made to the Holy Rosary Church, P.O. Box 424, Grand Marais, MI 49839 in Helen’s name.
