Grand Marais
Helen V. Purple, age 67, of Lowder Road in Grand Marais, died unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, May 2, 2010. She was born on October 17, 1942, in Grand Marais, MI, to the late Lawrence and Mildred (Kettering) Nyman. Helen enjoyed watching the birds and going trapping with her husband Jerry. She also enjoyed sitting around a camp fire in her swing, watching the northern lights, in the company of good friends and close family. Helen was always willing to lend a helping hand, caring for those whom she could help. Above all, Helen loved her husband and her children.
She is survived by her loving husband of forty-eight years - Jerry; four children - Cindy (Donald) Smith of Wallace, MI, Jerry Purple, Jr. of Grand Marais, Craig (Heather) Purple of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and Lynn (Marvin Eddleman) Purple of Menominee, MI; eleven grandchildren - Justina (Matt), Brad, Christopher, Scott, Nathan, Cassaundra, Nick, Sophie, Ellie, Tyler, and Brooklynn; four great-grandchildren - Kolby, Cassidy, Harold, and Vincent; sister Marvel (Bill) Wallace; six brothers - Larry (Nina) Nyman, Bob (Steveie) Nyman, Bill (Lucille) Nyman, Tom (Bonnie) Nyman, John (Sue) Nyman, and Ted (Tina) Nyman; and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Mildred.
Pastor Jon Babbit will conduct Helen's committal services on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grand Marais at 1:00 p.m.
