Helen Marie Viton

TRENARY
Helen M. Viton, age 87, of Trenary died Sunday, December 9, 2007with her family at her side at Marquette General Hospital after a short illness. She was born on December 31, 1919 in Gwinn to the late Paul and Jennie (Lindfors) Kallio. Helen was raised in Trenary and graduated from Trenary High School in 1938. She then attended Northern Normal School and earned her teaching certificate. On August 15, 1946 Helen married Russel "Gus" Viton and together raised their four children. She returned to school and earned her Bachelors Degree in 1962. Helen taught briefly in Tapiola, Curtis, and Skandia, but spent most of her career teaching elementary students at the Trenary School where she retired from in 1984. Helen enjoyed quilting, making crafts with her grandchildren, cooking, and baking. She attended the United Methodist Church in Trenary and was a member of T.O.P.S.
Helen is survived by her four children - Linda (Dave) Moore of Limestone, Karen (Tom) Hart of Spring Lake, MI, Nancy Viton of Hart, MI, Russel Viton of Trenary; grandchildren - Kyle (Roxanne) Brill, Brent (Randi Bramer) Brill, Erik Moore, and Brian (Trisha Johnson) Moore; great-grandchildren - Chloe Brill, Sierra Moore, Kaylee Savola, Payton Johnson; siblings - Jennie Biga, Art (Anna) Kallio, Ida Kallio, Ruth (Arnie) Ellsworth, Lauri "Vaino" (Peggy) Kallio, Donald (Verna) Kallio; sister-in-law - Christine Hawley; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Russel on September 13, 1996; parents Paul and Jennie; sisters - Esther (Hans) Hallinen, Impi (Ed) Moran; brothers-in-law - John Heraver, Bob Biga, and Floyd Kallio.
Helen's visitation will be on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising and Thursday, December 13, 2007 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Trenary. The funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Irene White at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Helen will be escorted by her grandsons Kyle, Erik, Brent, and Brian, and nephews Randy Stine and Bruce Hallinen. Memorials can be made in Helen's name to the United Methodist Church of Trenary.
