Hellen A. (Maki) Keskimaki

Hellen A. Keskimaki, age 93, of Chatham, died early Saturday morning, January 6, 2018 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, Michigan.  She was born in Chatham on July 14, 1924 to the late Abel and Hilda (Lintula) Maki.  Hellen graduated from Eben High School in 1942.  During WWII, she worked in Detroit as a factory worker. Hellen married Arnold Keskimaki on February 8, 1946 and together they raised their three sons.  In 1958, she became a cook at Eben School until she retired in 1970.  Hellen always stayed busy cleaning house or putting a fresh coat of paint in her home and at homes of friends and family.  She enjoyed word search, crosswords puzzle, and any event that brought her together with family.  Hellen was a faithful lifelong member of the Chatham Apostolic Lutheran Church.

Hellen is survived by her sons – Alan (Kathy) Keskimaki of Capac, MI and Paul (Susan) Keskimaki of Lake Linden, MI; grandchildren – Jodi (Dominic) Abate, Matthew Keskimaki, Dawn Leppanen, Darin Keskimaki, Brett (Patricia) Keskimaki, Brynn (Joe) Fisher, Amy (Dan) Rautiola, Sara (Lars) Hyrkas, Beth Keskimaki., Maria (Tom) Parks, Jennie (Steven) Koivisto, Eric Keskimaki, Jill Keskimaki, Lisa Keskimaki, and Samuel Keskimaki,; great-grandchildren – Grace, Zachary, Maria, Luke, Laurie, Michael, Sara, Alina, Olivia, Raine, Aurora, Janelle, Avery, Tyler, Kelsey, Kiira, Lila, Theo, Jack, Caroline, Paul, Rowan, and Adelyn; two great-great-grandchildren – Natalie and Madeleine; sisters-in-law – Evelyn Niemi and Geraldine Keskimaki; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold, son Michael, grandson Jason, and seven siblings: William, Irene, Hilda, Bertha, Lillian, Arnold, and Ann.

Visitation will be at the Bowerman Funeral Home, 302 E. Superior St., Munising, MI 49862 on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.  Roger Kangas will conduct Hellen’s funeral service at the funeral home at 12:00 noon.  Interment will be at the Pine Grove Cemetery on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Hellen’s name may be made to Alger County Commission on Aging, 1604 Sand Point Rd., Munising, MI 49862.
