Henry Theodore "Hank" Scholtes, age 55, of Manistee, MI and formerly of Munising, MI, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at the Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. He was born on March 22, 1955 in Marquette to the late Ted and Joy (Loewer) Scholtes. Hank graduated from Wm. G. Mather in 1973 and then went on to Michigan State where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and then to Northern Michigan where he became certified as a Lab Technician. He began working at the Manistee Hospital in the early 1980's working as a Lab Technician. Hank loved to be outside, whether it was golfing, riding in the boat, camping at Bay Furnace, or spending time at his camp off the 440. He also enjoyed collecting dragons. In the early 90's Hank was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, he found great comfort in a group of friends that he found online through a MS website. Hank became very knowledgeable about his diagnosis and took it upon himself to continue to learn and to spread his knowledge to those who needed guidance and support.
Hank is survived by his sister -Linda Scholtes of Munising; uncle - Jim Chopp; close friend and cousin - Mary Sue Nolan; many cousins; and numerous friends throughout the country. He was preceded in death by his parents Ted and Joy, and an infant brother Theodore William Scholtes III.
Hank had requested that there would be no services, but hoped that his family and friends would be able to gather for an Irish Wake Celebration at a later date.
