Eben
Hugo T. Hallstrom, age 99 years and 11 months, died peacefully in his sleep at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising, MI on Sunday, December 20, 2009. He was born on February 1, 1910 to the late Thomas and Leena (Hannula) Hallstrom in Eben, MI.
Hugo was employed in Munising, MI at the Ford Garage, Munising Woodenware, and the Paper Mill before he purchased his parent's dairy farm in Eben, MI in the early 1940's. He enjoyed farming until 1965 when he sold his cattle and equipment, and established Hallstrom Machine Shop, a welding and fabricating business, which is now known as Hallstrom Company and operated by his youngest son, Edward. Hugo retired in 1975.
Hugo is survived by his dear WIFE - Aune (Laurell) Hallstrom and the following CHILDREN - Marie Hendrickson of Dassell, MN; Edith (Stanley) Granger of Rising Sun, MD; Ruth (Hubert) Homola of Brush Prairie, WA; Karen Deel-Swenor of Chatham, MI; Elizabeth (Fred) Watson of Lake Linden, MI; Linda (Walter) Granger of Elkton, MD;Alice Blomquist of Rising Sun, MD; Charles (Bonnie) Hallstrom of Calumet, MI; Greta (Otto) Huegel of Rising Sun, MD; and Edward (Ruth) Hallstrom of Eben, MI: DAUGHTER-IN-LAW - Jeanne (Hendrickson) Hallstrom: SON-IN-LAW - Marvin Raisanen: SISTER - Lempi Johnson of Tendercare in Munising, MI: SISTER-IN-LAW - Effie Hallstrom of Marquette, MI: 75 grandchildren: numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren: and many nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by his FIRST WIFE - Alma E. Hallstrom: CHILDREN - Nina Raisanen, Fremont (Blanche) Hallstrom, and John Hallstrom: SONS-IN-LAW - Albin Hendrickson and Merlin Swenor: BROTHERS - Larry (wives Marion and Fannie) Hallstrom, George (Anne) Hallstrom, and Matthew Hallstrom: SISTERS - Martha Johnson and Marie Hallstrom and also BROTHERS-IN-LAW - George and Carl Johnson.
Hugo was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church all his life and his funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the church on Onota Street in Chatham, MI. Ron Jouppe and Clarence Marttila will officiate Hugo's service. A public viewing will also be held at the church on the evening of Tuesday, January 12, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., as well as an hour before the service on the 13th.
Pallbearers will be Hugo's 11 firstborn grandsons: Thomas Hallstrom, Gerald Raisanen, Duane Homola, Darryl Deel, Joe Watson, Walter W. Granger III, Bill Hallstrom, Wayne Blomquist, Sean Hallstrom, Joshua Huegel, and Matthew Hallstrom. If any of them are unable to attend, those grandsons in attendance may serve in the capacity of bearer or escort.
