Munising
Impi A. Maki, age 93, of Munising, died on Sunday afternoon, January 27, 2013 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born on June 1, 1919 in Forest Lake, Michigan to Julius and Emma (Jarvinen) Rautanen. Impi attended school in Eben and worked on the family farm. She married Reino Nicholas Maki in August of 1939. During WWII, Impi worked in the factories in Detroit. She and Reino lived in Livonia for twenty-five years. After retirement, they moved to Munising. They enjoyed bowling and dancing together. She and Reino were married over fifty years when he preceded her in death on December 13, 1990. Impi enjoyed reading and walking.
She is survived by three children - Jerry Maki of Port Orange, FL; Myra Solomon of Port Orange, FL, and Christine (Jeff) Rokuski of Casco, MI; nine grandchildren - Liz, Julie, Robert, Erick, Adam, Nicholas, Scott, Bailey, and Garrett; fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Impi was preceded in death by her parents, husband Reino, brothers David, Arne, Arvo, Toivo, Sulo, and Armas Rautanen, and sisters Jennie Fleming, Helmi Gardner, Sylvia Rautanen, and Gertrude Bellant.
No services will be held at this time and graveside services will take place at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Chatham at a later date.
