Ina Ellen Mattson, age 84, of Grand Marais and formerly of Escanaba, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March, 20, 2008 at Portage Hospital in Hancock. She was born on August 14, 1923 to Matt and Hanna (Pellinen) Mattson and graduated from Grand Marais High School in 1941. Ina was employed in Detroit from 1943 until 1944 and then returned to Grand Marais due to her parent's health. After the death of her parents, Ina moved to Escanaba in 1950 and was employed at Harnisch Feger Corporation for thirty years, retiring in 1980. She moved to the Rock / St. Nicholas area in1966 and returned to Escanaba in 1993. Ina was a former member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Perkins and Bethany and Immanuel Lutheran Churches of Escanaba. She was a member of the sewing group and U.A.W. Retirees. Ina enjoyed walking, snow shoeing, reading, and gardening.
She is survived by nine nieces and nephews. Ina was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Emil, Paavo, Hugo, John, and Vernon Mattson, and sisters Aili Dettmer and Elvi Herman.
Services will be held at the Bowerman Funeral Home in Munising on Saturday, March 22, 2008. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Pastor Robert Gardner of the First Lutheran Church of Grand Marais will officiate Ina's funeral service at 4:00 p.m. Interment will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Grand Marais.
